I am sure there is gonna be an influx of Indians on this forum as BMW has introduced the E60 a few months back in India.

yeah I heard they are assembling the 3 and the 5 and making the door panels locally. Prices in India is cheaper than Bangladesh as the duty structure is cheaper in India.

Well i am not sure about the door panels being made locally i guess they would start with the seats first.
Fortunatly i think my car does not have any locally manufactured parts as it was one of the first few batches. Eventually after a year they have to get 30% of the parts locally manufactured.
Direct import duty in India is extremly high too but since the 5 series is assembled in India its a little cheaper on duty... I paid around $120,000USD for my 525d !! I could have gotten an m6 or more for that much in the states.
BMW has been very aggressive to steal Mercedes's monopoly in India... we get the 320i,320d,325i...523i,525i,525d,530i ... all of which do not have many options you can add as they come very well equipped.
The diesel variants are the highest selling as they offer higher FE and petrol is a much more expensive fuel too. Also the petrol engines come sightly detuned to match the inferior petrol quality here. Hence a 525d is as quick as the 530i here.
Even with this steep a price tag there is a 6 month wait on the car , the E class sales have been hit badly. Currently the 5 series is outselling the E class twice over !
