Hey all,
Just wanted to post something and get some feedback from you all.
First: I got a rear break job done at the dealership. Got my car back, didn't notice any issues.
Yesterday on my way back from Weekend Drill for the MN National Guard I was on the Highway doing the speed limit actually and I heard a Fump Fump Fump from my car, then it goes sideways!! I was able to keep it on the road, thank someone above for that, no one was around me either or I would have hit them. I pulled over (cleaning the crap out of my pants) and I looked at my rear driver side wheel. I see metal shavings and 4 our of 5 lugs are missing. 2 are sheered off and 2 are missing. The one left holding my wheel on is bent and bairly hanging on.
I call BMW road service, my 2004 545i has had it's roadside assistance expire, so I paid the $119 to get a wrecker to my position for a tow to the shop that did the work. 100 miles away on a Sunday. The guy that did the tow was awesome. He got my lowered car up on the flat bed and took 2 bolts from the front tire to stabalize the rear wheel. He took care of the lift with some wood planks so the front nor the rear would scrape. Nice old guy too. we talked for the 2 hour drive back to the shop.. haha.
I left my car at the early bird drop off with the reason it's there, left them the paper work from the break job and had my son pick me up from the dealership.
So, I'm not sure what to do about BMW.
1. Fix my car right
2. New Tire and wheel on the rear driver side
3. pay my tow bill
4. Double check for metal shavings in the breaks
5. Replace the lugs in front and rear driver side.
Can you think of anything else I should be checking into??
I talked to the Service manager this morning and he's all apologetic for sure.
But not sure if they should be checking anything else before I pick up my car.
Thanks in advance,
AE

Wow glad it didn't end in a crash... apparently they let a monkey torque your wheels down...make them pay for everything. You shouldn't walk out of that dealership one penny shorter.
It might have even damaged the suspension, who knows...make them check that too.

First, glad you're okay, that must have been quite "pants filler" of an experience. Second, I'd suggest getting them to check out EVERYTHING on that corner of the car. There's a lot of computer equipment in that corner of the trunk and who knows what damage was done while the wheel was flopping around at highway speed. Make them check the fender liner and suspension components. Make sure they give your car back to you perfect, which they will because you can easily sue (they did almost kill you). I'd make sure everything that could possibly be affected by the accident is checked and replaced if needed.

I'm pretty sure they will take care of you, do to what happened being their fault...With that being said, I'd take a drive with the SA before you leave just to make sure you don't feel anything out of the norm once it's been fixed...

No doubt the dealer wanted to take care of EVERYTHING. Whatever happened at their service center exposed them to a potentially HUGE financial liability . You are very very very lucky to be able to control your car and that no other vehicles or people were involved.
For sure you should inspect every service they perform in the future.
