+1. He should have been executed. I knew one of the victims (Tom Ammerman of New Jersey) and will never forget going to his wake and seeing his family's pain.
We all agree that this is BS. How should we respond politically? Or should we not respond? That is the question?

I seriously think this should affect our diplomatic ties with GB. Does anyone disagree?
For the purposes of this decision, which I personally also disagree with, your argument is actually with the devolved Scottish government, not the British government. This decision was made solely by the Scottish Government under Scottish Law. For practical purposes, in cases like this you effectively need to view Scotland as quasi-independent of the UK.

The devolved Scottish Government is fully able to make decisions on Scottish justice independently of Westminster. That said, foreign policy and foreign affairs for Great Britain (including Scotland) is handled by the UK government - hence they are saddled with trying to clean up the shit left behind by Scotland here. And make no mistake, there was very little support for this in Westminster.

The comments from the Libyan government seem to suggest otherwise... and specifically credit Blair and the Queen. Others involved in previous negogiations admit that this has been an ongoing source of debate. I smell rotten fish and chips.

The Libyan government is, of course, trying to maximize its political capital out of this whole sorry state of affairs. You trust info coming out of Libya, now? I sure as hell don't. And I can absolutely see any such comments for what they are - which is opportunistic and politically motivated bullshit.

So I am sure you know the real reason and have a better explanation. Scrape your knuckles a little longer if that what it takes for you to believe the rhetoric.

The point is I don't believe the rhetoric.

Based on your post, it seems that you do. You're happy to trust info coming out of Tripoli?

As I said above, I don't. And that was abundantly clear from my initial post.

Based on your post, it seems that you do. Are you some kind of Libyan apologist? You trust info coming out of Tripoli?

I don't. And that was abundantly clear from my initial post.
It doesn't take info out of Tripoli to inform an imbecile. I assume you are unable to form hypotheses....You have yet to propose a reasonable reason why this murderer should be released... although you clearly support the decision

Setting back UK/US relations 10 years really doesn't change much...although actually it was probably better pre Bush so you may have a point. I just thought your original post was kinda odd in that respect.

I don't agree with his release either...but I'll remember to mention that to Blair when I go home. Although I seem to remember Gordon Brown has been the prime minister since 2007.
