Has anyone ever raced an e46 M3 in with his 550i? Who would win in a drag or pull at higher speeds.

I really have no clue, but I call for the e46 ! because its lighter and its incredible high RPM power.

i have beaten an e46 M3 in my 535 in a drag. it was a 60 to about 150 pull. he wasn't far behind. but he was sure as hell trying.

that said... i believe the 550 would win.

throw in a corner or two and the e46 will whoop a 5 series all day. the slight speed difference isnt enough to make up for the corners on the straights. That M3 is gonna come out of the corner so much faster, the 5 will never catch it again.

I believe my 550i can out pull a friends E46 M3 although its close. I think he's done exhaust, wheel, and suspension mods.

BTW, The E46 M3 doesn't whoop the 550i in the twisties. My friend does pull away but just barely, over dozens of curves. I have video proof that I can hang with him, even with him driving the car VERY hard.

EDIT: See
. The password is dragon. Note we had just passed a car that had pulled off and it took a turn or two to get back to full tilt but I hung with him for the duration of the video. I was in DTC mode, and using 2nd most of the time with brief periods in 3rd. Turn it up so you can here the revs and how hard we were pushing.

You are correct Richard. The 550I Sport with summer tires has tremendous grip in the twisties, it is not as tossable as a 3 Series but grips just as tenaciously. Last summer a Porsche Boxter tried to lose me in the twisties -- and couldn't.

Since the cars are so similar in power/weight ratios and close in handling, it will be up to the driver, really.
