Hello, I purchased my 17 year old daughter an 03 X5 and she has not complained about the issue I'm writing about. During the holidays I drove it to visit relatives about 300 miles from our home. The vehicle seems prone to oversteer at highway speeds. Can you (anyone) tell me if this vehicle has active steering and if it does where might I begin to look for problem causing the oversteer? Thanks
I don't think that an '03 X5 has active steering.

My best guess, at least at first, is to check the tire pressures and make sure they're set based on the numbers printed on a sticker located on the driver's door jamb. If the pressures are okay, have a dealer check the alignment of all four wheels and make sure everything is up to specification...

Hey, thanks and I'll ck those things out. I just bought my wife an 06 530 to replace her 01 530. Today was my first time at the wheel and I wasn't surprised to find it a bit heavier feeling than the 01, confirming my hunch based solely on seeing other e60s on the road. What did surprise me was the amount of torque the powerplant is capable of. The car really moves nicely, in true BMW fashion. How 'bout the V-8, is it an animal, and how does it feel during aggressive driving?

A strong + for Rudy's tire pressure suggestion. Mrs. sixcard's E90 had very tight steering. Tire pressure was found to be down in the teens (psi). Bringing them up to spec was a significant improvement.

I'm new to the forum and BMW. I recently purchased a CPO 08 528i and love it. How can I tell if I have active steering option?

Thanks,
Steve
