Hi
To go "on" with a task like this , I will state that some "mechanic" skill is needed !
If you wanted to re-fit a HUD you will need thees part's ( as well )
HUD unit ,new or from etc. E-bay , the BMW part no. is depending of witch month+year your car is from.
Light/rain sensor BMW part no. 6135 9 120 310
LVDS wire 2 pic. ca. 50cm long , ask by BMW
1 LVDS connector BMW part no. 6113 6 906 535 , the LVDS is to be connected on the rear side of the M-ASK/CCC.
The other part's you will need is marked with a green dot on the 2nd photo below.
To make it "perfect" you should also change the lightswitc BMW part no. ? , ( ask by BMW is depending on if you have Xenon or not , and if the car is pre 09/04 or not ), but thereto it just is a simpel on/off function ( between pin 1 and 7 ) you can use a ordenary micro switc for this. ( and save 150 USD for a Org. lightswitc )
Price for all parts ( is without HUD unit and windshield ) ca 6-700 USD.
You will have to get your car coded by BMW , with code SA610 ( HUD )
It will be good if you have acces to BMW WDS ( wirering diagram system )
For wirering please see PDF file.

should be able to access it via your Idrive menu if you have it...

Also, if you have a HUD, there will be a fairly large cutout visible in the dashboard above the instrument cluster.
