How do I listen to my iPod, or other MP3 player, through my cars stereo system?

BMW offers an Auxilary Audio Input option which your dealer can install for you. Once this is installed you'll have a new screen in iDrive and be
able to plug in any mp3 player, cd player, etc.. and play it through the cars stereo system.

I use the FM transmitter from Monster. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and charges as well. It works better than the Belkin iTrip.

I have the Belkin and am not happy with it. Plugging it in to the 12v adapter does not give it power. You either have to use batteries or plug it in with the 12v adapter issued with the Belkin. I am going to return it. The nice thing about the Belkin is the unit can be adjusted to any FM frequency and hold 4 presets in its memory.

Belkin works okay with me, I just have to put my mp3 player in the back seat for good reception. All 4 of my presets have a radio staion over here.

Add auxilary input to your E60. The connection is better, sound quality is improved.

It just plays whatever comes through.
It's displaying "External audio source" only.

What year is your E60? I ordered the Auxilary Audio input from my dealer and took the car in today to have it installed -- which turned out to be a waste of time when the dealer "determined" that the Auxilary Audio input is not compatible with the 2005 5 series.

Did the dealer screw up and possibly order the wrong part and not realize there's a compatible Aux input part for the 2005? Or am I just out of luck and stuck with the FM modulator solution?

I've got a MY04, but never heard of incompatibility with MY05.

i have an aux in my gmc sierra (will soon be an owner of a 5 series) and it sounds much better than any fm transmitter. The sound is great and consistent. You have a 40k-68k car dont skimp on the sound system guys.
