Point taken, but I don't think any car would have had much of a chance in a head-on with a tractor-trailer like that.
yeah, i agree, but it was the worst looking pic i could find for making my point.

Yea. The only reason cars like Toyotas are so reliable is because its not difficult to make a lawnmower engine fuel efficient. When you couple fuel efficiency with power, that's where technology comes into play, and that's where reliability issues arise.
Talking about Toyota..the GT kinda reminds of a Venza.

Nice post, Craig!

What's the power/torque rating on this N55?

Check this: http://paultan.org/archives/2009/05/27/new...etronic-engine/

they say same HP/TQ as N54 but better.

"Three years later, we still have 306 horsepower and 400Nm of torque, but BMW has achieved it using only one turbocharger instead of two. The new N55B30 engine also churns out peak boost and torque faster than the N54, with 400Nm hit at the 1,200rpm point instead of the N54B30?s 1,3000rpm mark."

All this fuss about fuel efficiency is killing the reliability of these engines.

What you save on gas will be less than what you will spend maintaining these engines.
couldn't agree with you guys more. the engines are getting way too complex! what ever happened to doing something to your car without professional help? these new bimmers are going to need more checkups than us at the doctor

If you want a big car with simple engine [big volume, gas guzzler etc... , ] and cheap interior...buy GM. And if you want a reliable car without driving pleasure buy a lexus.

Technology DOES matter. Yet, Going to 1 turbo instead of two will improve reliability. High precision injection is half electronic and half piezo engineering. Reason it did not happen earlier is just time it takes to automotive to qualify technologies.

Guess what, in few months year we will be all part of F10 forum right?...

haha current events? Hardly, but yeah, Im actually at a point where I can afford to put these on but due to my schedule and my laziness, they've just been sitting in the garage. One of these days...haha. What about you V? Did you decide to keep you're 530xi after all?

Thanks for the link, it was a good read, so it seems like the current 535i engine will be dead in no time..
