Default Illuminated door sills

I have bought the illuminated door sills (51477203608, 51477203607) and cable set (61119220310).

To install, I need to drill a hole near the door sills. The question is where does this hole needs to be located. Does anybody have pictures of this option installed, especially the hole where the cable needs to run?

I was checking TIS and based on the picture (flat cable is white in between plug 2 and 3), it seems that the flat cable runs on top of the rubber gasket, but I am unsure.

Meanwhile I have installed the seals. It's not a big effort. The cables go through a small gap (specially made for the flat cable) to the inside of the car underneath the rubber gasket. Then it connects to the foot well lights. It is a 15min job.

Hi @paulie ,

I've got an F10 which also has the ambient interior light package (S4URA) but it didn't come with the illuminated door sills. I'd like to install them if possible, using the same part numbers you mentioned in your post above (51477203608, 51477203607), and I wondered if you could help me with a couple of questions about your experience with it?

Firstly, did you end up needing to use the cable set (61119220310) at all?

Secondly, how exactly does it connect to the footwell lights? How would I find them?

I don't suppose you have any photos to show how the cable should connect to the footwell light?

Thanks for any help you could give me!

Hi GermanKiwi,

Yes, I have ordered the cable set as well. It was around EUR 30,- so not that expensive. The kit includes front and rear cables. Each sill has one cable. Brown lead is the ground one and can be connected to a ground connector. You can find it in the corners by lifting the ground floor which is already lifted when you put the cable out of sight. The red/blue one you have to lead to the light underneath the footwell (see picture) and connect it. The picture shows a quick and dirty attachment. Later I used original connectors to make a extension cable. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck, the end result is great!

Hi paulie,

Thanks so much for your helpful reply! I found a photo of the cable set online here:
https://static.schmiedmann.dk/Produc...166014_big.jpg

It looks like one end of each wire has a plastic connector plug, but the other end of each wire has nothing at all - it's just a bare wire. If that's how it looks, then how do you connect the wire to the plug attached to the door sill? I mean this plug:
https://c1552172.ssl.cf0.rackcdn.com/372385_x800.jpg

Do you need special tools to somehow crimp the wire and attach it to another wire?

I had hoped that each end of the wires would have a plug, and it would be really simple to attach a male plug to a female plug for example. But the photo makes it seem more complicated.

BTW, in your original post here, you gave this link:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/obj/1L6O9rIh

Do you know what web page this picture came from? I tried to find it at https://www.newtis.info but I couldn't. I wondered if that page might have instructions or more details that would help me.

Thanks again,
Jeremy

So, one end of the cable has a three pins connector (only two are connected) which connects directly to the flat cable of the sill. The other side has two cables (brown) one ground connector that can be connected to one of the ground end points (see example link: http://bmwdiy.info/pdc-wiring/pdc-wiring-06.jpg). The connector pushes into this black plastic block. The other cable (red/blue) is the 12V one which is indeed bare cable. This one you can either solder to the existing footwell light connector as on the picture to terminal #2 or make an extension cable with original BMW sockets.

I Paulie, I found this thread googling about the wiring for illuminated door sills and I just need your help.
I read all you write here but I'm missing one point, you said that to install the illuminated sills I need to bought also the wires 61119220310 which is ok because I was planning to do it, but on the latest message you talk about original bmw sockets, I want to do a clean job without cut the original wire that connects the footwell light so I think i need those sockets, do you have a part number, because I cannot find it !
Thanks in advance mate

The wire-kit enables you to connect the flat cable from the door sills to the car. The brown cable you connect to ground, simply plug into the ground connector nearest which is in the corner next to the door opening.

Now, for the power wire (blue/red), you need to connect it to the footwell light under the dash. For this, you unplug the original 2-pin black plug (see picture earlier). To connect the wire, I made a Y-cable using a male and female connector (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Plug-2-po...kAAOSwCMVbzMDQ)

Does that help?

I've just bought this cable kit to install these illuminated door sills into my 2010 F11. I've got 4 cables of varying lengths, 2 with connectors on just the brown (ground/earth) wire, the other 2 are just bare wires. I understand the front sills will be powered from the relevant footwell lights, but what about the rear sills? And I don't understand why the cables are all different lengths? TIA.
