Default WSJ Reviews the F10 M5

Fronm the one and only Dan Neil:

"the M5 is a breathtaking, world-blurring outrage, a fast car for real nutters, people whose egos generate their own weather."

"I only wish it didn’t feel so unfulfilled at American highway speeds ... somebody has got to go to Hell for this."

"a sick-with-torque twin-turbo V8—oh, my God, Hillary Clinton doesn’t have this kind of pull…."

"the company’s twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8, which if it were any smarter would achieve consciousness"

And then there is this tip-of-the-cap to the E60 M5:

"The strange truth is, the M5 is too heavy for the track and too fast for the street.

In this respect, and this respect alone, was the previous M5 better: Fitted with a hilariously rough, lurching sequential gearbox (the SMG) and a naturally aspirated, 5.0-liter 500-hp V10 that spooled to the skies (8,200 rpm), the former M5 was a pretty lurid sport-driving experience. You knew you had ahold of something.

Strangely, the M5′s drama has declined even as the car has gotten quicker, faster and more refined. Inevitable, I suppose."

Nice review. Though I'll never own either, I can't really say I'm a fan of the F10 M5. To me, there just isn't anything special about it, unlike all of its predecessors.

Too bad Mr. Neil did not take a few more moments to get used to the E60 M5's SMG. If he had, he would have quickly found its sweet spot. The F10 is a rocket, but the E60 is still so much fun. If I did not live in NYC, I'd own both!

Well, as stated in the article, you really need to drive it to fully understand what it is all about. Looking at it in a magazine doesnt give you the ability to judge. That specialness youre looking for is unrealized without actually experiencing it firsthand.

The specialness I'm looking for is in the form of an Avus Blue E34 M5. Maybe someday...

Before when I would test drive a e60 m5 I was like this car is fast, sounds great and put a hugh smile on my face. A real screamer.

My new m5 is the opposite>>>>>>>>> It pulls like a freight train and your like whoa now>>>Gets you there like no other 0-155 is a snap>>>A real classy car with the motor to hang with the other big boys>>>extremely speed deceptive so you really have to pay attention because 80 feels more like 55>>>. I'm really happy with my purchase and recommend anyone to get one. Inside is cozy and I can spin the wheels in 3rd...
