I had originally thought that the F10 M5 was going to be revealed later this month at the Paris show - at least in "Concept" form - and that it would be on sale in the US by the spring of 2011, about a year after that base model. I think that that would pretty much match what has been the normal cycle for the M for the last couple of iterations.

But now I'm reading that the M5 won't be shown until next September's Frankfurt show and won't be on sale until late-2011 or spring-2012. It's hard to believe that that's correct, especially seeing the prototypes in what appears to be near final form.

Does anyone have the latest scoop?

This M5Board post has a video interview with the BMW M GmbH Managing Director about the BMW M5 F10 ... no news except that he states that the release date of the M5 will follow the typical one year to one and a half years after the release of the standard model.

My guess is that what you have heard is about right: we will see a concept M5 in Geneva in March, 2011, followed by a formal release at Frankfurt in September, 2011 - available for Europe immediately but nothing for the U.S. until some time in Spring 2012. Remember, the E60 M5 didn't arrive in the U.S. until 2 years after the launch of the E60.

I'm in no hurry ... I love my M5.

I guess that you're right. I had forgotten that the E60 M5 was released almost two years after the base model.

And you may not be in a hurry . . . but what about me??? I'm ready for my F10. I'm ready for an M5. NOW.

Well go get one! (E60 M5 that is). I know it will blow your sox off (red sox?) It's a great way to pass the time until the next M5 is here.

If you have to wait anyway, why not just get the new upcoming M6? I'm blown away by the new 6 Series design!
