Just seems unfair that in Europe you can get an F10 with a 6cyl 3.0L turbodiesel, chip it and have 500+lb-ft of torque AND 30+MPG, while in the States we cannot get it. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it is planned for the U.S. market?

I've been thinking about my next DD, and I'm between the diesel X5 and a few others (F10 535 X-drive M sport being one of them). But the diesel's torque is just very alluring. Any real-life experiences, anyone?

I'm sure this has already been posted and it's about the crusty old, ugly out dated e60 but I would think the comparison stands.

Well, it's pretty much awesome :)

I have a meanwhile rather old '05 530d with 500 NM of torque, and its fair to say that lack of torque is a rare occurence :cool:
In fact, the problem is the too frequent occurence of the DSC light on the dash. Basically everytime you depress the throttle at 60% or so at a traffic light. Which makes a LSD a nessesity, if you want to be able to use the power. And then, with a simple remap ($1000) you get to 600NM...

And that's not even close to what a 535d can do. You get the idea :)

To be fair though, the engines do sound rough compared to the gasoline units. So if you appreciate a really smooth engine, then its not for you.

The 530 Diesel F11 is in comparison with the 525D E61 I drove before very silent.
I think the 540 nm torque combined with the very good ZF 8 AT gives a more than smooth ride.

It is not a skelter for sure.
It is a damn fast high comfort travelers car for long distances.

That is what I'm looking for - a damn fast, economical, long distance driver. With all the news coming from Mercedes about extending their diesel line up in the US, I'm really surprised BMW has not announced a diesel for the 5 series.

They will and even the 520d is fast enough. I say nothing more.

Are there any aftermarket exhausts that make it sound awesome?

If it were up to us, we'd have them already... unfortunately, it is up to the stupid regulations :bash:
