I can no longer engage reverse gear in my 2010 520d F10 with manual gearbox. Does anyone know of a common fault with theses?

Current mileage 91,000. All six forward gears work fine. There's no grinding or any other noises when attempting to select reverse, I just can't overcome the pressure to push the selector forward.

Any thoughts on what the fault could be?

 

Main dealer could not identify the problem, and suggested I replace the gearbox. I was not happy, but before I had a chance to complain they advised me that they had approached BMW for a contribution toward the repair.

Amazingly BMW are supplying a new gearbox free of charge!

Whilst I'm not happy that the gearbox failed, I'm delighted that BMW are correcting the problem before I even had a chance to complain.

 

Goodness that's a lot of driving in two years!
