Test drove the F10 535i yesterday. Beautiful interior but what a lousy steering. This was a non-active steering. Car otherwise was very stable and composed but isn't BMW all about the driving experience. Makes me love my E60 even more. Has anyone driven the F10 with the active steering?

what options did the 535i have that you test drove, and what do you mean by "lousy steering"?

Doesn't the F10 have some sort of "fly by wire" steering? The E60 offered either active steering or old-fashioned rack and pinon (sp?) steering. I suppose he is commenting on the feeling of the "fly by wire" steering...

Steering was light and the "feedback" was lacking. Almost felt like an Audi or or my wife's MB.

I've read reviews of the steering on the f10 being more luxury/less sport...which sounds like what you are describing/experienced...

I have no problem with the steering system at all. The previous car had sensitive steering that would transmit road vibes and groves and was very annoying to many people who drive in the northern states. The new steering helps suppress some of the bad road feel and gives a smooth feel to it. It is sporty enough with good centering.
