Model Year: 2018
Good catch...I didn't notice the lack of "X-drive" information in all the many documents released yesterday...
Although I'm surprised about it, I'm thinking that they aren't offering an X-drive right away but will likely offer one in some specific production month or maybe in the second model year. I think they did the same thing with the new 7 series. (They now offer it with X-drive but didn't when if first came out).

The X-drive version of the 7-Series was just recently announced, so I see no reason why they would have excluded the 5-Series from this development. After all, they're based on the same platform and it's an established market. I'm sure it will come out in a couple of months along with the other variants.

BMW 7 SERIES XDRIVE MODELS TO DEBUT THIS FALL.
01.07.2009 Press Release
Enhanced xDrive All-Wheel Drive System Available for the First Time on BMW?s Range-Topping Sedan.
Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey ? July 1, 2009? In the continuing development of BMW?s flagship 7 Series line, BMW today announced xDrive all-wheel drive versions of the 750i and 750Li. When combined with the previously announced V12-powered 760Li, the 7 Series range grows to five variants for model year 2010.
BMW?s acclaimed xDrive all-wheel drive system has been enhanced for these new models to ensure that the 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive set a new benchmark for handling characteristics among all-wheel drive sedans. BMW?s Integrated Chassis Management, using the remarkable speed of its FlexRay on-board network and the quick-responding xDrive hardware, is able to identify and limit understeer by shifting torque rearward (up to 80% to the rear axle) while preserving the stability for which xDrive has been so widely recognized.
As a second step, the Integrated Chassis Management system can then apply a precise combination of throttle and individual rear-corner braking in order to maintain perfectly neutral handling in a corner - regardless of road surface conditions.
These key enhancements to xDrive ensure that the 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive will be two of the most nimble all-wheel drive sedans available in any vehicle segment.

Could be production capabilities to blame, or it could be a rush to produce the better selling model (RWD versions).

But in the USA, maybe I'm wrong but doesn't it seem like there are more X-drive models out there than RWD ones? (Maybe it's just in my part of the country...)

Erm ... yes, it might have something to do with your northeast, snow-bound, wintry residence ...
Try to find one south of the Mason Dixie line. It's rare to see the Audi Quattro models here as well. I know, I used to have one and that's only because I bought it while in Colorado for school.

My experience with MB came when my brother went for the new E-class a couple of months back, and the salesman said they would only have RWD models for at least the first 2 months (we live in NYC, he wanted 4matic). Those two reasons I said before is what the Manager of the dealer speculated was the cause of not releasing the AWD models in tandem. He didn't even know the real reason.
I wonder if anyone has the actual numbers of E60 sales between XI and I models in the US?
