Yeah, BMW thanks us for our money.

The fact is that the BMW Group (BMW, Rolls-Royce and Mini) has made their best profits
in a long time last year. Mostly do to a very good sales in China.

Fact is that the F10 is a great car.

For comparison sake, back in this same quarter in 2004 (first year of the E60 era), BMW sold 10,328 5ers while MB sold 12,802 E-Class. So the F10 has picked up ground on the E-Class compared to its predecessor model.

Other notable figures from Q1 2011:
Audi A6 1,912 units (+5% from the same quarter last year)
Audi A8 1,371 (+820%)
Hyundai Genesis 6,888 (+24%)
Infiniti M 3,258 (+4%)
Jaguar XF 887 (-53% )
Jaguar XJ 1,255 (+1400%)
Porsche Panamera 1,629 (+10%)
Volvo S60 4,241 (na)
Volvo S80 921 (-55%)
Hi,,

March 2011 was the best ever month for BMW in terms of global sales figures. Unbelevable 165.842 cars were delivered to customers all over the world. This represents a growth of 17 % (+21,3 % Q1 2011). Daimler had a good month as well, selling 129.622 cars but their growth, 12,4 % (12,4 % Q1 2011) is not as strong as the figures BMW can show.

http://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-715...0-0-0-0-0.html

Having in mind all the serious problems Daimler have had especially with the OM 651 diesel engines, and also overall quality of their products under last decade, I am wondering that they can sell that many cars though.

Best regards,

TGII

You have to look at the cost behind the sales growth, though, and there the picture isn't quite as rosy. BMW is scoring poorly in almost every major reliability and quality study right now. As owners, I think you would be better off if BMW was closer to the top of those lists rather than just doing well in terms of sales numbers. It's clear that their eye is off the ball right now, and they are focused on growth rather than quality. You mention Daimler quality issues - well, Daimler is easily outscoring BMW across the board right now in every major US reliability and quality study. Mercedes (and Lexus) both sold more cars in the US in March than BMW (and more cars year to date) and both brands outscore BMW in terms of quality. I would suggest that reliability is the target BMW ought to be aiming for in addition to just strong sales numbers.

The safest car in it's class ever (the F10)? EuroNCAP '10.

A 71,2% sales improvement in US (F10 with not even the F11)? YTD March '11.

Best selling Q1 ever? Worldwide BMW Group sales.

Is really so nice to drive a small under steering car?

Absolutely nothing you have posted contradicts the point being made about curent BMW reliability and quality.

Too true, Pete. If you can deduct the lease payments you get a nice tax advantage and a pretty solid get out of jail card if you happen to buy one that does show some signs of unreliability. I've seen both sides of the coin, my 545 was rock solid but my 550 wasn't one of Dingolfing's finest...

My F10 is registered as my "company car." I deduct everything....lease payments, gas, insurance, etc.

To me, it makes no sense to purchase German luxury cars.....maintainance costs after warranty is ridiculous.

Japanese luxury cars maybe, but German luxury cars....Hell No!

That's a fact! Except for the post you're answernig to.

1) I had problems with the 8-speed autotrans until some 2,000 km's, then it learned my driving and is now perfect.

2) The chassis feeled like crap with my 20" non-RF's (on stone roads) until it also got driven in. Now perfect.

3) Windscreen wipers. They are not as clever as in the E60 but in pratice it doesn't matter.

4) But still the car seem to be larger than it is. The front hood makes it impossible to evaluate the cars size and width. The PDC is a must.

5) The extended AC seems to whistle a bit when the temperature is very cold. (Warranty will take care of this.)

But the cars DTC is perfect and with the DSC you'll get out of any snow pile and without any controls the car
oversteers like a dream!

Adding some Spira:
"Cabin ergonomics are just perfect. Everything ? think switches, knobs, levers, buttons ? is placed exactly where the driver needs it to be ? a significant advantage when driving at speeds in excess of 160 km/h (100 mph) on an Autobahn."
