The other day, while looking at a couple F10s on the dealer lot, I noticed something that's sure to become something the modders will start messing with...

E60 veterans will recall that on early models, the six-cylinder cars had all black grille slats and the V8 cars had black slats with chrome edges. Of course, many six-cylinder guys upgraded the look of their cars and swapped the inserts for the ones from a V8. Ironically, many of the V8 guys ended up swapping their chrome inserts for ones that were all black!

On the F10, I noticed that both model cars (535i and 550i) have chrome edges on the grille slats but the 550i has silver slats and the 535i has black ones. I wonder how many grille insert trades we're going to see on these board in the coming months?

Things like this crack me up. I remember when I got my '06 550i, I ran out to buy reflectors for the back bumper to replace the body color ones that came with the car. With my current M3 I am going to replace the front reflectors with body color inserts. Very interesting.....

I even remember some European members back then (2006 timeframe) who wanted to swap out the red reflectors they got for the body colored inserts we got here in the states. The grass is always greener...

Exactly what I was thinking when I posted this...

Should be fun to see how things play out as more and more F10 deliveries take place. The only difference is it isn't a "USA/rest of the world" thing like it was with the E60 rear reflectors.

This I don't remember, the red rear reflectors was swept in US the Euro ones, not the other way.

But the chrome grill swap was a fact. I wanted the chrome grill for my '05 525iA and for the '08 520dA.

The F10 now looks the same with chrome grill and a double pipe exhaust for the 523i, 528i, 520d, 525d and the 530d.
The 535i and 535d has a single exhaust pipe on both sides and a normal chrome grill.

Only the 550i has a "extra chrome" grill and some rectangular exhaust pipes on both side.
But inside the rectangular exhausts there are two pipes inside. I sure mod.

Oh it happened! Not nearly as much as the US guys putting in the red reflectors, but it happened...

As you said; "The grass is always greener..."

I always wanted the US side lights.
Now we have them in a EU way and I love them.
But luckily not the front fender lights.
