Dear BMW 5 Series forum members,

This thread refers to those people who have owned an E60 5 Series and now own an F10 5 Series. Please draw comparison and tell us about differences in the following areas:
1. Straight line acceleration and engine response;
2. Handling;
3. Ride comfort;
4. Rear seat space.

Thank you in advance

I currently own an E60 with sport package. The ride is very confortable, not harsh despite it has the sports pacakge. A very solid all around car. I was just in a F10 528i a few days ago with sports pacakge. I felt the suspension was a bit soft for a vehicle with sports package, but quite confortable and quiet.

Thanks. But could you please tell us about difference in parameters brought above?

Thank you in advance.

Dear BMW The Best,

Could you please tell more about your curret car.

The F10 beats the old E60 in all, except that the F10 feels larger
and it's harder to estimate in the city.

Thanks for your info, dear Ricracing.
Currently I own an E39 523i, and I like everything about the car except the front shock absorbers which are too weak for imperfect road conditions and thus damage too soon. And that's the E39's Achilles' heel and very disappointing.
I have driven neither an E60 nor an F10 (pity). All I can rely on are reviews but they're mostly biased (especially several foolish comparison tests where so-called "reviewers" state that the new A6, for example, beats the F10 with all respects which is pure nonsense to me). That's why I want to really know the difference by listening to the people who have owned or driven both generations of the 5er.

I have owned a LCI E39 525iA and two E60 525iA's and one 520dA LCI and have I now a 520dA F10.
All cars have been very nice and good cars in all senses. But of course the technical development progress goes on.

Since I'm a BMW man, I really cannot subjectively say anything about the Audi. But the reason why I wouldn't
buy one is, that the car has belt driven both camaxel and autotransmission. I don't thrust the belts!

The only problem with the F10 is that the car feels very large and is kind of remote from the drivers side of point.
My car is very quiet, comfortable and suprisingly fast (8,3 sec 0 -100 km/h) and all in all very powerful.
The consumtion is only 6,5 l of diesel / 100 km even if I drive a lot in downtown city traffic.

I don't know much of Aremenia, but in the winter time over here I appreciate the pretty high clearence to the ground.
And the F10 looks very good, as you can see in My Gallery below.

Thanks, Ricracing.
I hope one day I'll have a chance to drive an F10 and enjoy it (I'm sure I will enjoy).

MY 2cents;

I own a e60 550 as well as M5 and love both cars. Here are things I love and hate about my e60's;

- Love the sharp aggressive lines throughout the car.
- Love the LCI and Mtech look of the car.
- Love the steering feel.
- Love the comfortable ride.
- Love the quality of the interior and touch and feel of it.(LCI)
- Love that I can modify many things in the car.

- Hate, the Nav/sat/Com aka entertainment menu and the way its function.
- Hate, outdate electronics.
- Hate, that Nav DVD is on the center console worthless waste of space.
- Hate, Expensive parts.

All and All I love E60 and its feel and not to fond of the F10 looks and steering feel.

My Ride: Alpine White 2006 530Xi (SLD)

I have an 06 530Xi with a few modifications. In my case, my car's suspension is set up for serious curve-hugging, so the ride is harsh, to say the least. Stock she was very compliant and quite capable of hugging curves, but now she's at 150%. I don't mind the harshness, since I enjoy the benefits of the racy suspension.

I've test driven the F10 about a week ago - 535 without sport package and ARS, and 550 M Sport with ARS and Dynamic Drive. Honestly, NOT a fan of either. Steering feel is just absent - and I test drove the Xdrive versions specifically to make sure they had the hydraulic power steering - not the EPS. Didn't matter - steering feel is vague, almost no communication, slippage is not transmitted to the steering wheel until there's actual slippage going on. By contrast, E60 will send you a friggin official letter before it starts slipping - gives you PLENTY of time to correct before things get out of hand. The F10 cars I drove were VERY comfortable, extremely excellent highway cruisers and pretty capable curve-huggers. Unfortunately, they just lacked the feeling of an E60, so I opted to wait a little longer to get another car. I'm hoping that BMW will improve the F10 a little in the next couple of years, because really, I walked away feeling disappointed. To a new customer though, F10 would be a great car - I'm just spoiled by the capabilities of my E60. Of course, the improved electronics of the F10 are a huge plus - I would not even consider it without the Navi and Apps. Standard stereo in the F10 is also unbelievable. Most cars don't have optional systems that sound so great! Unfortunately, I am looking for a bit of that raw feel behind the wheel, I like lighter cars, I enjoy the sporty edginess of pre-F series Bimmers. Hence, I'm sticking to the E60 for now - which is good news for my bank account, since it seems that you will not be able to get a great F10 without committing some type of financial fraud. Unless you're a trust fund baby or a ruler of a small country

I definitely can't compare apples to apples because I used to have an E60 528i but just got an F10 535i. Interior space feels just about the same. Rear leg room is the same IMHO. My F10 is now peppier than my E60 considering that the E60 I had was just a regular inline-6.

Interior at night feels like there are a lot more, lighted buttons??! Feels almost like a cockpit because there are buttons everywhere that are lit up... I dont have a sport package on mine so the ride comfort is just about the same as my E60 w/o sport considering that my F10 has run flats now. I haven't driven my F10 enough to really get a good feel to it. Will get back to you guys after a few months
