F10 on Runflat Tyres or not ?
#1
Have they put standard tyres on the F10 ? Does anyone know ?
Or, did they stick with the run-flats from the E60.
I understand they have NOT put run-flats on the new 7 series so maybe teh F10 is the same.
I think there was enough consumer pressure for them to drop the run-flats, but I have no idea if they have done so.

I believe Bridgestone has developed a new generation of RFT tires that are both lighter and more flexible (i.e. not as harsh a ride). I am guessing these will at the very least be an option, if not standard. I think they are officially called the 3rd generation run-flats, if you want to do some independent research on the subject. But I remember reading that Bridgestone developed the tire specifically for applications in "high-performance luxury vehicles" and the new 5 series was mentioned in one of the articles I've read about them - although now I have no clue as to which article it was and by what publication.

Mini brochure currently available from UK dealers shows that Run Flat Tyres are fitted as standard. Shame - to me this reduces fuel economy and ride. Not sure if they are the 3rd generation Bridgestone run flats mentioned

My Ride: 2008 528i: Silver/Black/Light Wood, ZPP, ZCW, STEP, Comfort Seat, Heated Rear Seat, PDC, Xenon, Nav, iPod. 35% ceramic tint, VentureShield clear bra.
Whatever tires, If F10 doesn't have a spare or room for spare, that's big FAIL.

BMW.de configurator is opened for F10. It shows that in Germany they will put 17" with normal tyres and the bigger ones with run flats.

US 550 GT configuration shows Star Spoke (Style 271) 18 x 8.0 light alloy wheels, 245/50 run-flat all-season tires as standard. I'm OK with that and think the 50 series profile will be less susceptible to the wheel and tire damage caused by poor roads and may be a good compromise between ride comfort and crisp handling.
Unlike some forum posters, I feel the long term viability and use of RFTs will grow as wheel and tire technology continues to evolve.
I'm sure some people who remember the good old days were skeptical when the put balloon tires on cars. Back in those day you only had to worry about termites eating your wooden wheels and tires - then they put these things filled with air ... how silly was that

The new F10 needs 19" wheels without RF's.
All the promo pics are with 19" wheels.
And the Run Flats are the same crap as before.
Did drive this week a brand new X1 with RF's...

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
I agree, I don't care which generation RFT they put in there, I WILL NOT buy an F10 that has RFTs. 17s are fine with me, as long as they come with a spare. I dare BMW to make RFTs an option. Only then they will really understand their desirability (or lack of).
