So the 550 is going to be a twin turbo v8 with 400+HP. I along with others assumed that the m5 would have a v8 TT, so what do you think it will have? Will it be a better tuned v8 TT? If so, the 550 could easily be around the m5 numbers if that was the case with a jb3 turbo tune. What do you think is in store for m5 power wise? I'd assume 600HP potentially, but I doubt there would be a v10 due to all whole "green" movement.

Well there already is a M TT V8 powerplant, the MX6 and MX5. They both have 550 hp and 500 ft/lbs, that is 50 hp and 117 ft/lbs more than a 2010 M5. I would guess its going to be the same, which doesn't sound bad.

You can...Is your question why are they going to a V8 from a V10?

No I know why! ED, I'm just wondering how the F10 can own the e60 m5? is it going to be a battle of boost? (assuming someone TT charges an e60) if the f10 is portlier than the e60 it won't win by being lighter

and I believe I read the singh is already offering a flash for the MX6 and MX5, would be nice to see what numbers they are getting...just to get an idea of the F10 M5 potential

The highest output for reliable normally aspirated street motors are the 1000cc motorcycle that produce 200 hp/ liter. I would say thats your theoretical limit for a V10, 1000 hp/ 5 liters. It is probably more like 700 hp for a car motor that you don't want running in the 6000-14,000 rpm all the time.
For another theoretical reference: the restricted 2.4 liter V10 Formula One cars produce around 1000 hp for a 400 hp/ liter ratio, but lasts just two races.
For the F10 TT V8, Dinan took my 535 up to a reliable 384 hp /3 liters and 421 ftlbs. Thats about 130 hp / liter or 4.4 liter X 130 = 572 hp. You could definitely push it more since it has a crankshaft 1/3 shorter than the 535 and thus less prone to flexing.

well, the BMW engineers are not dumb and they know TT V8 from non-m could be tuned and would match the performance to the F10- M5 but I believe they will limit the transmission max torque for non-m cars, no LSD and others stuff. none is confirmed. I believe the F10 550i tuned can beat the current e60 M5 for sure!

The BMW engineers built a 535 that could be tuned to beat the 550. The e60 M5 handily beat the formerly mighty e39 M5 and I think the e60 550 beats the e39 M5. The F10 is the next in the evolution, all bets are off. BMW rated the e60 550 at 5.5 secs and the car mags regularly tested it at 5.0 secs. If BMW is saying 5.0 secs then maybe it will be a 4.5 sec car.
I read that all F10 will have an electronic LSD that is activated when the DSC and DTW are switched off.
