I understand it's hard but I'll probably let you stay on the "front line" and I'll just sit back and watch things take place from behind the lines! In my mind, there's no need to defend the F10. It's a great car but like all cars, it won't please everyone all of the time...

i saw the Motorweek review this week too and it was a good show, they loved it for sure regardless of the dimensional expansions!

that is always my point as well, no need to defend anything, there are positives and negatives to most everything;i most of all like debate, and enjoy talking about the good and bad objectively, trust me, the M6 is great great great, but there are things that i love about her, and some not so much, and can admit its faults without question....and looking forward there are already many things i dislike about the upcoming Ms, now whether there are more negatives than positives, cant say at this point, but if i find a deficiency in something i like, i acknowledge it just the same

I couldn't agree more with what you're saying. The F10 is a great car, will it have things that are quirks and owners won't like? Sure, every car does. Right now the only thing keeping me from completely loving the F10 is the knowledge that they ok'd production of the 6er GT coupe concept - and THAT car is frggin HAWT

Great analysis. I have been saying to those that would listen that the F10 is a small 7er. Last night I sat in a 7er. the F10 is very, very close to a 2010 7er.

Well, it might be a good analysis and for guys like you, me, Rudy and Ricracing, the F10 being so close to a 7er was obviously not a bad thing since we all got one......but for the rest of the community (esp. the diehard E60 owners), being the 'lil 7 it seems is not a good thing and their comments over the last few months obviously reflect that. Who knows what the next couple years will bring. Some guys might slowly come around and come to love the F10 like they did with the E60, and others might not and move on to something else.

....But that's fine. To each his own. Competition has never been better and there are so many wonderful cars out there to satisfy each and every want and need.

You have to admit, the F10 really is a little 7.

But, it's a little 7 that outperforms it's predecessor (talking E60 550i to F10 550i), has a significantly higher ceiling for tuning, and yes it's bigger and heavier. It gets much murkier when you discuss 535i E60 to F10, never really liked either and never really thought the N55 was a good match for the F10.

In looking at the numbers, the E39 to E60 was a rather smooth transition to a larger class vehicle, but at the same time, retained its weight with minimal gains (66lb increase) due to the larger dimensions.

But, when we look at the E60 to F10, the numbers show a stark contrast for a car in the same class/segment...More than 3inches in wheelbase, more than 550lbs heavier!

E38 '98 740i

Kerb weight 1885 kg 4156 lb

E65 2001 745i

Kerb weight 1945 kg 4288 lb

2010 E90 335i

Kerb weight 1625 kg 3583 lb
Well, this tells me one thing: BMW makes some heavy-ass cars!

I see ... to you, a car is defined by length and weight, and not by how it drives (or look) ie a car with even closer physical dimensions to a E39 would be a E39
