Yip an F10 550i.. Tough decision to step away from the E60 M5, but it is short term and I'll put in an order for a 2013 (2nd gen)F10 M5 in about 1.5 years from receiving the 550i (which is why I am so anxious to get the 550i rolling).
Yes, I talked to my CA and all he says is BMW knows it is priority 1 "sold" and will automatically move it up (I keep asking him to takeover one scheduled for production already). I am going to call the 800 number again and hit the option to talk to customer relations and ask them to expedite...
Anyways, maybe any day now I'll see a production date (it is only a week today since order was placed)... This dealer told me 8 to 12 weeks for delivery (another swore it would be no more than 6 to 8 weeks). Based on your experience, I am hoping for about 6 weeks.
I went with a 550i (no xdrive) with all options except night vision in Jet Black / Black Napa.
You must be having a tough time sleeping thinking about picking up your new M3 any day now (I keep thinking I should have gone for an M3 and would have had more fun with that in the meantime, but the 550i is kind of a preview of what is to come). Congrats on the M3 and to the fact that you'll be driving it very soon!

and thanx for the kind words RE: my order
my dealer also told 8-12 weeks...so I also hope your order will be on a similar timeline as mine. The 800# and owner's circle are still a bit behind but I did find speaking with an actual rep on the 800# was more helpful (my car was supposedly @ port for 14 days per the automated system, the rep told me it was actually loaded on a vessel already, 4 days prior) Good luck with the wait, the anticipation is great, but the length of time can be agonizing
Placed my oder 2.5 weeks ago, still not scheduled for production.... Sales guy says they bunch similar cars to build all at once. M sports? Sounds like a fairy tale to me. He stll predicts 2 months from order date. Wonder what he's smoking????

Don't think bunching of similar cars is the issue, most sales guys are clueless. Keep in mind that dealers are allocated a certain number of cars based on their sales levels. If your dealer already has cars on order from other customers it is possible your order may go against the next month's allocation, delaying your order. 6-8 weeks is typical but if your order goes towards the next months allocation it could be a bit longer...
Thanks for the insight Specialist. The irony is that whether he car is here for New Years or Feb 1st it probably won't be driven much d/t New England weather.
Of course eye candy in the garage is always nice!

Just contacted 2 local dealers. They are quoting $950 and $1500 over invoice for a special order. And they could also lock in the $1,500 holiday cash, so it doesn't seem that the car has to be delivered by Jan. 3, 2011 to get the rebate.
I visisted the BMW website to "build" and F10 online. A little confusing....maybe its just me.
I didn't see any option for selecting a manual transmission. Not sure if the 16 speaker premium sound is available standalone
or only in one of the packages. Also not sure if the M sport Pkg includeds the modified bodykit, and several other features that don't seem to
make sense. Eg, you can get the Cold Weather pkg, but then the heated front seats are duplicated under one of the other pkgs - Premuim 2 i think.
I seem to remember the E60 build your own site was pretty streamlined and straight forward.
