Now we see another review of the new 550i, and the review is much more positive than the idiotic one made by C&D. Here's the link:
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/24/2...est/#continued

I know there are some people criticizing BMW for making the new 5 Series more luxurious and paying less attention to performance, but this is what the midsize luxury sedan market requires today. There are so many reviews that I can't say for sure whether the 5 Series is still the ultimate sport sedan in its segment or not. In previous tests where the E39 and E60 were engaged, BMW always came at top spot whereas now the F10 more often doesn't win comparison tests. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the review.

Wow. A semi-positive thread from a F10 hater....I'm impressed.

As far as the review, it's not any different from what the guys at C&D said....namely, that the F10 has emphasized more luxury than sport.

Listen, my friend,

As an owner of the new 550i, tell me whether its handling is OK or not, and have you tried to race Infinity's top M on curves and what was the result.

Thank you in advance

Handling is great, but it probably doesn't matter to you anyways since you hate the F10.

As far as racing, I don't race....drag-racing on public roads is for idiots and for escaped convicts. I let the professionals do that job.

The only official published results so far on the 550i is from the recent C&D short road tests. They only tested the 550i from 0-60 and the 1/4 mile. Based on that, the 550i is quicker than the E60 550i and the Audi A6 4.2. It is about as quick as the Infiniti M56 and the Panamera S. (Again, all based on C&D data). There are no official track times yet on the F10 550i, so to speculate would be foolish at this point.

Just one more question, Petes550i. How do you assess the ride comfort of your 550i taking in to account the fact it has 19-inch wheels? Is it fine?

Its an interesting read, and perhaps the most astute analogy...that the e39 was for those who wanted more than the entry level 3 series, while the f10 is for those wanting a little less than a full 7 series.

Ride comfort is excellent. The 5 series have been famous for their ability to perfectly blend sport and ride comfort and the F10 is no exception. The nice thing about adaptive drive is that you can tailor the suspension and chassis to suit your driving style at any given moment. On Comfort mode, the ride is slightly more bouncy but it soaks up imperfections on poor roads very well. Personally, I leave mine on Normal or Sport mode pretty much all the time....it gives me tighter handling with just enough cushion to soak up road imperfections.
