It looks like BMW will be coming out with an all-wheel drive version of the beloved 550i. Just curious if any of you are considering it. Personally, I really can't stand the feel of an all-wheel drive vehicle. To me there is a huge difference in feel and handling between it and rear wheel. I know that there are probably a lot of people who opted for the E60 550i to get the V8 and compromised on their desire to get an AWD. Just wondering how many of you could possibly be swayed. Not me!

(Forgive me if this has been discussed before. I searched the forums and coudln't find the topic)

Interesting. I can't find the 550xi on the German BMW configurator. The only x models available in Germany are the 525xi, 525xd, 530xi and 530xd.

I'd always choose an x model if it were available. Who doesn't want more traction, but I wouldn't downgrade my engine choice just to get an x.

Unless you live somewhere that requires AWD 6 months out of the year, then I see no point in it. My M handles decent with a set of Blizzaks. Oh, and this is coming from someone who previously owned an XI.

Or somewhere (like Bavaria) that needs AWD 4 months of the year and gets rain at least a couple of times a week for the other 8 months.

i dont think I like the style of the f10 much. when the f10 comes out, I'll priolly get the e60 M5. Gotta love the 10 cylinders and I believe it's a collector's item. HEHE

As for XI, u dont need an XI. Calton was a wussy and had an xi. he's STILL a wussy with blizzaks! LOL. I drove a CLK55 AMG in CRAZY snowy weather in western New York with low profiler all season tires.

Thats just retarded. We get some pretty severe winters here on the Canadian prairies and I absolutely love AWD. If i had a RWD car I would have winter rubber on there for sure. Summer rubber is just not meant for cold temps and has the wrong tread pattern to get through ice and snow. Some provinces here have legislated mandatory winter tires.

I'd consider a 550xi if it had a real sport package, not just the few cosmetic bolt ons that BMW has done will all of the other x "sport" models.

I would get a 550 with AWD and Manual Transmission if I could.
I need AWD and love the feeling of driving a manual transmission so if offered I'll pick it up-
