Autozeitung refers to engine and transmission as a perfect match. 507hp and 700 NM (between 3,000 rpm and 4,750 rpm) coupled with a state-of-the-art 8 speed automatic transmission showed that the B5 Biturbo is first and foremost meant to be a powerful 'business sedan', rather than a pure racer. Yet, 0-100kph only takes 4.6 seconds which is pretty quick for a car weighing more than 4,200 lbs. Unlike other BMW models the B5 Biturbo isn't held back by any sort of speed limiter, so you can travel as fast as 307 kph.

The engine is based on the well-known N63 V8 engine, yet Alpina lowers the compression by using different pistons, adapts the ECU, and modifies the intercoolers. The 8-speed automatic transmission has also been modified. Alpina realises a so-called 'Single-Cylinder Fade-Out' to improve gear changes. It allows to cut the fuel supply to up to five cylinders during a gear-change. Compared to the usual method of a timing retardation, his makes for quicker shift times and a lower fuel consumption. Alpina first used this feature in the Alpina B6 GT3 race car...."

Yep and add "EXPENSIVE" to that list, and RV is poor as well.

Not a fan of the front styling

the front bumper looks like something Blue Peter have made!

And without wanting to hijack the thread; isn't the F10 just too big to look sporty? The M sport cars we're always so special because they were 'low key' - IMO

Alpina has always made the BMW's comfy and fast.

BMW fan's still need to wait for the one and only F10 real M5!

The Alpina B5 and B7 have always been spectacular cars and were always perhaps the choice of the discerning connoisseur. We get the B7 in the US, I've always felt BMWNA ought to have broadened the deal with Alpina to import the B5 too. Comparing the B5 to the M5 is, in my judgement, a mistake - they don't really compete. The M5 has always had the heart of a racer in the body of regular sedan, the B5 (and B7) were built to be epically quick, understated but close to bespoke automobiles. They shared some of the BMW DNA from the donor car, but turned both the performance and "BMW Individual" dials up to 11. Great cars.

+1 given the weight of these cars, seeing the M5 as a racer is getting harder and harder (though I'm sure the new car will be absurdly quick and will hide the weight reasonably well), while IMO the B5 really seems to capture the essence of what the newest 5-series has turned into - an ultra luxury sedan.
