Wow what a great sales month for the F10! That is the highest monthly sales volume of the 5 series since August 2008 (5,287 back then, compared to the 4,777 sold last month not including GTs). The E60 topped this monthly sales figure just 15 times during its entire run (out of something like 82 months of full sales?), and it took 15 months after the E60 introduction to reach this many sales in one month.

What's Hot
Jeep Grand Cherokee sold 12,721 units (up 291% from the same month last year)
Porsche Cayenne 1,139 units (+141)
BMW 1 Series 1,139 (+127%)
Infiniti M 1,175 (+119%)
Scion tC 2,162 (+105%)
Audi Q5 2,099 (+70%)
BMW 5 Series 4,777 (+57%)

What's Not
Toyota RAV4 3,193 (-65%)
BMW 7 Series 680 (-44%)
Chevy Camaro 5,013 (-38%)
Lexus RX 2,198 (-27%)

That said, there's nothing really to add, Rudy, they're pretty solid numbers - better than prior months, let's see if the trend continues.

It would, of course, be remiss of me if I didn't take the opportunity to note that the numbers are still lower than the E-Class which delivered 5568 for the month, and to also provide the S-Class numbers that some posters requested - the S sold 1781 units, a 63% increase over October 2009.

So mr. positive former bmw owner, how about a $1 dollar bet that the 5er catches the E class for monthly sales by year end December? Two monthly reports to wager on. You on????

Not really. I'm just reporting and commenting on the numbers.

Either way, while the F10 numbers are the best yet, they ought to have BMW at least somewhat troubled. October will, of course, have been boosted to a degree by the initial Xi deliveries, but the real issue is that the F10 may, as many had predicted, be cannibalizing F01 sales. The F01 is a model which ought to have greater unit profitability than the F10 and it does little for BMW as a whole if F10 units come at the expense of lost higher profitability sibling sale rather than from a competitor. The numbers for the F10 are good, but the devil may be in the detail.

Interesting numbers there. The 5 series is out selling the Infiniti M 4 to 1. Also the X5 i selling 50% more than the Lexus RX.

The Lexus RX sales number for October 2010 was actually 8,569, which was an increase from last year's result. There's an error in Tachyon's data for the RX. It's the best seller in its class, it's already sold close to 80,000 units this year...

Though I read that the 5er generates a huge share of net income despite being lower in sales in the 3er. So this is important. Its BMWs most important model to the bottom line. I've read that Audi loses over $5K for every A8 sold. The big cars are needed just to support the brand. The Merc S probably stands on its own, hard to mess with a Merc flagship.

Based on what Tachyon posted, the trajectory for the 5er looks better than the e60. Should be interesting to see how the new 5er does in the long term.

Regards,
CVT

Why are you surprised? BMW 5 Series is at least 4 times as good as Infinity M.
