So I finally got some great rims for the Wagon (18" for ride and A/S capability) and shod them with the highly coveted Michelin Pilot Sport AS plus. Only problem is my Fuel economy is going to the toilet (already lost 2mpg in 4 days of mixed city driving). Plus the tires seem really harsh to me... could it make that much of a difference going from stock Goodyear RSA's (225/50/17) to 245/40/18...???

The Michelins feel (after 200 miles) like I am pushing them through slush, slogging through something. The car needs noticeably more power to get going.

I am seriously going to bring the tires back and try some Yokohama Avid S4's that seem to get very mixed reviews...

Anyone here have any experience with the Yoko's on our cars? The other choice would be the Continental Extremecontact DWS, but that tire has also gotten some mixed reviews for turn in issues.

Thanks!

I'm running Avid envigor for about 1000 mi. No complaints so far.. also 18" everything a bit bumpy compared to stock.. But I love them .

All I can say is I LOVE YOKOHAMA!!! The Advan S4 is so much better handling and IMHO much better riding. Even the quality of the tire from a visual perspective is better than the Micheline. I don't know about mileage yet, but so far I love this tire!

The Michelin felt both vague and harsh at the same time scaring the hell out of me in corners. The Yok's are so much better. They feel riveted to the ground from Mile 1.

Replaced RSA's with Conti DWS on my 2008 535Xi wagon 10K miles ago. Way better in all conditions, would highly recommend. Also replaced RSA's with Advan S4 on my wifes Infinity G35X 35K miles ago. Outstanding tire in every condition, but I think road noise is up a bit and ride is firmer. Replacing them with Yokohama Envigor V rated tires next month.

Why does BMW continue to put such poor OEM tires (that need to be replaced) or run flat tires (that are heavy and ride like sh&t) on thier "Ultimate Driving Machines??? Not much "joy" where the car meets the road...

FWIW, I Ran Avid S4's on two MB Wagons I had (C320 and E320) They were a much better improvement over what came as OEM's.
