Finally got to the annoying little motor that was screeching every time I opened the tailgate.

Removed the interior plastic trim that holds the motor, removed the motor complete with its housing, got a wooden clothes peg out of the wife's collection, used the tapered part of the peg to wedge the motor down so the pinion doesn't slip and voila', silent as you like :-) quick fix for zero layout.
