Hi all,
I've recently purchased an 08 e61 and want to tint the back windows. I see a few of the pics here show it done. Can anyone advise the best way to achieve this? Also, what percentage tint is best?
Thanks.
D.

Hi - what colour is your E61?
I just had it done - yesterday - and on my black touring it looks great.
Tints are roughly as follows
70% only a very light tint, hardly worth it unless on the front windows only
20% Factory tinting and looks best from B pillar back
5% Limo tint - bling.
Mine cost £160 and was done in 2 1/2 hours.
Can post you up a photo but you may have seen enough!

Obviously you need to be careful of anything forward of the B pillar if you're thinking of doing that. There's a legal minimum amount of light that should be able to pass through.

I did 35% on all the side windows and 20% on the back. Why darker on the back? Because I live in the United States and ever other car is a giant SUV with headlights pointed right at my rear view mirror. Even with Auto-Dim, it's annoying.
I don't recommend 20% on the side windows because night time left hand turns are basically done blind if there are no street lights.

Are there any problems with retro-fitting tints ? do they peel or bubble in the heat. I understand they tuck the tint behind the window rubber seal, but how do they achieve a good look with the top of the window when it's open a little ?

With a good tint shop that uses quality tints you should have no problems, and they will look good, windows up or down. I went with 35% all around [except front window]. But as Kell said, check local laws, if you have a black interior and use a dark tint, it will look that much darker from the outside [to an officer] , where as same tints with a lighter interior may not raise any suspicion at all.
