Default Who has replaced their own brake pads here?

I was looking up the part numbers, and came across the kits, and it says that ideally for cars over 4 years old, you should replace the spring clip too? Part #'s 3 and 4.

You guys think it's needed?

I was going to buy the parts and give them to my mechanic, and didn't know if I should get them too or not. I just had my 335's rotors and pads switched, and didn't provide new clips, and they didn't say anything...

I would say you do not need them but it depends on the climate the car has been in. After removing and reinstalling a few retaining clips, only after 4 years in extremely harsh climates or constant owner abuse would these need replacing. The easiest way to be certain is remove the wheel and then remove the clip yourself. It is about as difficult as opening a beer but putting them back into place takes a little bit of technique and muscle. Doing this will familiarize yourself with the forces on the unit as well as the structural life left in the springs.

The care the car has received, the climate it has been exposed to, and the price of the new retaining clips would be my 3 variables to weigh and consider.\

I recently changed pads on our 1999 and 2005 bimmers and I reused the original clips. Have never replaced. And Stockholm is, if not the buckle, pretty bad in the rustbelt. (think Gothenburg is worse
