New-to-me '08. There's this compartment in the tail gate that looks like it should hold a tool kit, triangular reflector in some markets... Not really sure on this model/vintage/market. What's supposed to inhabit this area?

 

It is the triangle, but I don't believe the US got it as an part.....

 

That's a lot of space for JUST a triangle... Especially given how many various other places it could easily go without having to design, engineer, and manufacture a compartment into the tailgate. Also, as many different permutations as BMW used on various sensors and electro-baubles, it seems odd they'd leave something like that without an ounce of utility... I'm not saying that's NOT the case, but it almost seems far fetched.
