Hello again!
As time has come for me to take the right decision for changing my car, I would need your inputs which are highly appreciated.
My options are as follow:
1. BMW 520d Touring Auto, brand new with selected extras at around ?54.000,00
2. BMW 520d Touring Auto, 8 months old with 20.000 kms and full of extras at around ?49.000,00
3. BMW 530d Touring Auto, 12 to 18 months old with 50.000 to 70.000 kms and some extras at around ?47.000,00
4. BMW 535d Touring Auto, 2 years old with 50.000 to 70.000 kms and some extras at around ?49.000,00
Cannot test either of above cars as diesel cars are not available by the local dealer.
Any ideas?

If you like to open it up a bit either option 3 or 4.
Personally I like 4. Great car, most of the depreciation suffered by somebody else.

Then again - chacun a son gout. My preferences/comments would be as KAF (in fact I did go for #4, though with fewer km and loaded with options, still at less than your #1)

Depends on where you drive, if mostly in the city option 2.

What holds me of not getting a 520d is the fact of being 2 litre and don't know how well would handle all this weight of the E61 (1700 kgs).
On the other hand my option #4 of getting a 2 year old car doesn't make me that happy as well (damn taxes)! Do you think 70.000 km are too many for such cash?

Yes most of my 30 km everyday driving is around or in the city. Then there is a drive to Athens (500 km) once or twice a month.

I think its a choice between those two options. A brand new 520d and 535d just don't make as much sense to ME, but having a brand new car or the biggest/fastest engine would not be top of my list.

Option 2 looks like the most sensible choice to me - enough performance for your normal driving, lots of options and the initial hit on depreciation has happened.
That said, I think the 530d is a great compromise between "thumping" performance, i.e. put the pedal down and get the
effect, and not totally breaking the bank. I had one for a weekend and loved it! Is the one on offer the 231hp version??

Yes the 530d is the 231hp version, which does make more sense to me as well.
#2 option is tempted as well, but don't know if it would be enough for roads in the mountains of Greece and you want to overtake a truck fast enough. This is the reason why I had my E39 520i Auto over sized to 2.6l and 216hp. I am not that happy with the idea of having my car re-mapped so that's why I'm after a 3.0l engine.

If you get the 530D seriously consider a remap.
Mine is improved beying all recognition since I had DMS play with it.
