Default Turbo OEM replace, Rebuild or Upgrade advise!

Hi all,

Just looking for advise. After hard acceleration and let go of the paddle,
I can hear there is a rattling sound from underneath the vehicle. Sometime it will pop out a code P30FF. I guess it is time for Turbo? Currently! I have 89000km (56000mile)
Should I rebuild the turbo? Replace with OEM? Or upgrade to RB? (how much would it cost for RB and what else has to be upgrade?) I am doing a M5 conversion next week. hoping to get some idea about Turbo so can do the turbo at the same time. Not looking to track the car!

Thanks,

Eddie

If you have a good relationship with your local BMW dealership, you MAY be able to get them replaced under warranty, if they are in fact, what is causing the noise. You are beyond the timeline of the warranty on the turbos, but you are still well under the miles.

I would start there......

Mine is 2008.....and in Canada, I don't think they have extended warranty......
I have to drop by a BMW dealership tomorrow. They will listen to the rattling sound and tell me if I need to replace the turbo or to fix the wastegate......
I hope they will tell me to replace my turbo haha.

I am in the same boat. I am in the early stages of wastegate rattle on my 08 535xit with 105k miles. Its my wife's car so I would go very mild on any upgrade. I may just go standard rebuilt. If it was my car, I would be doing a single turbo conversion with the new CES Steedspeed twinscroll manifold and maybe an EFR 8374 turbo . . . .

You could try to adjust it yourself first: Wastegate Ticking Resolved Without Getting 29.2! Works With 29.2 As Well!

Vargas GC lite $2999, Vargas Stage 2+ Hybrid Turbo $2199, Franken Turbo F21bi $1999
with the exchange from USD to CDN $4086,$3000,$2723
I guess I am limited to Franken Turbo LOL.

Why would you not replace oem?

Adjusting waste gate will buy you some time but won't correct the issue, as the waste gate will still flop and not close completely, albeit quietly.
The cheapest OEM version I was able to find was on ECS site:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assemble...5764928990kt4/
They are using newer design of original Mitsubishi turbos that allegedly have the waste gate issue fixed. Alternatively, you can always go OE, though at a greater cost.
