Weird combo - wiper, opening tailgate window and key opening doesn't work
Hello,
I have a strange combination of malfunction - I purchased my BMW E61 (2008, face lifted) this Saturday (so I don't exactly know a history) and there are some things not working:
- Rear wiper
- Opening tailgate window
- Opening/closing car using key (this is that plug in key with button, but not key-less option, so it hasn't got replaceable battery)
So far I made some checks:
- I disassembled key and found out battery has 3.2V on standby, and 2.8V on pressing button. I don't know if it's good or not - shall I replace it?
- I was thinking it may be D-Antenna, but car radio works very well, so it may be not. I cannot get there since I cannot open tailgate window.
- I tried to disassemble tailgate plastic cover to open tailgate window - no luck. It's held by screws accessible once you open tailgate window.
- Rear wiper doesn't make any sound - so it looks like engine may be disconnected
I am coming to the assumption that I need to replace wiring - I know it's usually around hinge, but could I check something before I will pass my car to electrician? Maybe you can advise someone good in London, UK?
Thank you in advance for all answers!

Sounds like tailgate wiring. You could check the diversity antenna
But debatable if that’s any easier than checking out the wiring.
Inspecting the wires is tedious but not that technically difficult:
Repairing them with a splice will require some skill.

Most likely wiring.
The location of the wiring and the strength of the wiring leaves much to be desired...
Just wait till you take a look in to your headlights and see how the wires are in them.

^ This. Headlight wiring insulation flaked off on my last bulb change. Good idea to keep some electrical tape handy in your trunk.

Thank you for that!
I cannot open my tailgate window anyway... I have purchased myself inspection camera and I will be investigating to emergency opening.
