After some heavy rain last week the lower boot area was very vet, I emptied out some litres of water from the sparewheel room and around the battery. The electronics under the sparewheel area I had moved away before so that was no problem. The car started fine but later that day there was not enough power to start. We tried with jumpcables but then there was smoke coming from black there, I could not see from where. And nothing happend when I tried to start, no sound, no click nothing! And faultmessages on the display, transmission, fuelpump. I now have the car in my garage to dry and batterycharge. I connected the battery again now this evening but nothing happens when I turn the key!
I have some time ago taken the sunroof drainhose on the rigth backside and sucked out so its not blocked. This hose was now a little blocked again so I sucked it free again. So I do not understand what can cause my problem now. Any ideas anyone?

 

I have now found that the little red cable that`s attached to the battery + terminal have obviously been warm and the black plastic piece is melted around were the red cable comes in. And I`ve heard that this used to be a problem that was sorted by the Bmw dealers on guaranty? I`l drop by a dealer now and hear what they have to say!

 

Hey, silly me! Its not the plusscable, its the minuscable I'm takling about. The IBS sensorcable apparently. A new minuscable complete cost about 2280 nok, thats about 200£. Quite expensive yes? So the small red cable is for the IBS sensor, but whats the other two white thin cables for?

 

I connected the minuscable again without connecting the two minor cables, just to check if the car would start and it started just fine!
Now I have to find a new minuscable somewhere, so I can get it sorted back to normal!


I think also I have to change the gasket around to panoramic sunroof, since the car is more than 10 years old now?
Anyone have done that?

 

Vent to a breaker who had a e60 standing, and there it was, the minuscable! Now on my car, back to normal, all works fine, only 100,- nok. (£10)

 

Cleaning the roof drains is certainly a good way to help prevent water from making it's way down to the modules, I would recommend drilling a small hole at the lowest point of the spare tire well and installing a small rubber vent/drain elbow.
