Default Trunk Randomly opens & Key Fob only works while standing next to rear door.

Guys a few a few strange issues going on here.

1st Issue. - Key Fob will not work form a far distance and only open and unlock the doors when close.

I have replaced the fob with a new one from BMW. This did not solve the issue. When i go over to the rear door on the driver side i can unlock and lock the car (Sometimes). Has anybody else encountered this issue? Is there anyway to boost the signal?

2nd Issue - The rear trunk randomly will open when the car is on but within park.

I am not sure how this started happening but its very annoying and something I need to fix right away. I have not done any trouble shooting on this issue so figured I would ask here first to see if anybody knows that the deal might be.

My guesses as to next options are 1 - diversey module in the rear spoiler, and 2 - tailgate wires and switch for glass in the hatch (though this popping open issue I've heard of more for the tailgate glass, and not the whole tailgate).

My fob sometimes works from a distance, sometimes it doesn't.

So replacing the ridiculously expensive diversity module will fix this? I already repaired the wiring on the tailgate......

I think you might of hit the nail on the head with this. I did a quick search and on the E91's the diversity module is located on the trunk under the spoiler. Often times water can get into this area and corrode the connections cause issues with remote locking/unlocking and i am thinking maybe false inputs from the module itself maybe causing the trunk to randomly open.

DIY - How to remove the E91 Antenna Diversity module

Also my fault for not searching this site a bit more throughly but I found a thread were some user was having the same issue. I have another E61 and will be swapping diversity modules to see if this corrects the issue.

My money is on broken wires going into the tailgate. BTW - save your money and skip the replacement BMW wiring harness. Just do some splices, since that's essentially what BMW's replacement harness is anyways. All these wires break at the same spot. BMW sent some very nice connectors with no wiring diagram on which wire goes where, so we ended up butt splicing everything in anyways. Oh, and they sent exactly the same metal conduits, which in my opinion cause the breaks. We ended up modifying the original conduits anyways, which eliminated the pinch point. Has worked so far.....time will tell.

99% is a water damaged module.
