Thumbs up

Hello all -

I have recently taken delivery of a beautiful 2006 Monaco Blue/Auburn 530xit. I am in urgent need of a trunk mat solution to protect the boot from all of the various insults my kids can hurl at it. I have only been able to find the following BMW accessories. Can anyone comment on their usefulness or offer an alternate suggestion. I would like to get something like a rubber or plastic tray to protect against spills or snow melt.

Thank you,

Don

I have the same problem but I am going for choice 4. Better safe than sorry. I am more worried about bumper scratches and I think choice 4 will help. Plus you can fold it up when not in use. Just my .02 cents Great car choice So I am sure you will pick what is right for your family. quote=medphreak,Nov 2 2005, 09:48 AM]

Hi medphreak,

I just got the second of your options - the fitted mat (P/N 51470309119) for the back of my 530d E61. Same issue - to protect the nice black carpet from muddy kids boots, etc..

It is (as it sounds) a rubber (or at least flexible non-slip plastic) mat with about a 1" lip all round that fits around the boot nicely. I used to have a similar mat for my E46 3 series and it saved the boot carpet in that car from mud and grime for 6 years. The new mat was about GBP43 so not too expensive.

I do notice that it covers the rear anchor points. The mat can be cut to reveal these - but then it wouldn't have a sealed base. I guess the other point is that it doesn't really cover the sides of the boot. Not sure if either of those is an issue for you.

I have used a clear carpet protector in my last 2 cars (both of which have light beige interiors).
In the UK you can buy rolls of this from a DIY store and cut to shape.

Very tough, wipes clean - and as transparent looks smart. Total cost under ?10 (and one roll did both cars)
As things can slide around, keep two ropes tied to the luggate anchor points ready to use

I have a BMW Trunk Mat that I installed on day one in April '04. If it is still available, the part # on the invoice is 57-47-0-153-442. It is better than the mats shown IMO because it will contain spills and covers all areas of the trunk including the little wideouts on each side at the rear of the trunk. My cost was $63.80, dealer list supposedly was $95.70.

Go for option two. It is the one I have and more than enough. By the way, unlike the image in RealOEM, is only one piece that covers the entire bottom. You can still access the undercompartment with the matt on which is excelent!
