Thanks for the good summary, I think you had a good survey for the differences of the e60 and e61. Those Dunlop RFT:s might really
be an major factor. I had goodyear RFT and think they were a POS. Just changed mine to Sport Contact 3, front 245/19 and back 275/19 with OEM M166 wheels, and the difference is really noticeable - not have had chanse to do a really good test drive, but from few kms after it feels like a different car now..

Why not go with the standard 17 tires, they ride and handle better than rtf
Not so sure about the handling...

What M166 rims do you have (M5 or M6) and are you using spacers on the rear?

I have the M5 setup, and do not have spacers.
When I installed the wheels, and car was on the jack there was slight rubbing to the bottom part of
the inside plastic cover. But when car is standing by him self there is no rubbing in any position - suspension up or down.
There is about 1 to 2 cm of space between the tyre an the inside of the fender.
I was little bit worried because I have read the advise here from the forum that they sure will rub, and I had prepared to put spacers,
but it looks that I do not need them..For the looks spacers would be ok to the back, because the front wheel now seems to stic out little bit more than the rear wheels. But it is so minor and do not bother me, that I rather go without spacers...

thanks for the feedback. I would probably go with approx 10mm spacer on the rear, just to have a little more distance. In Germany I would have to have it all formally tested and approved for insurance purposes, so they'll take a very close look at it and no doubt have certain minimum distance requirements for these kind of things.

After winter I will drive few weeks and keep close eye what?s going on.
In Finland spacers are illegal... so at least i have to go to inspection without them..

My advice would be to avoid the panoramic sunroof at all costs. I have had an E61 for just over 3 years and 17k miles, and the sunroof has been a constant cause of grief. It has been incredibly rattly, it has leaked, and now the latest tale of woe is that at the weekend it jammed open, and is now being replaced. Including the one the car was delivered with, this will be my 3rd sunroof, in as many years.
I recommend no less power than the 3.0d, but suggest you try non-sports spec in order to avoid a poor ride. I have non-sport spec, but with 18" wheels and the m kit bodywork, which I feel is a good compromise in terms of performance, comfort on London's atrocious roads, and aesthetics.
Regards,
Mike

Hi, I currently have an E60 as per my sig and am thinking about changing to a touring of the same age and mileage for practical reasons (a Golden Retriever).
I would prefer to go for the 530d Msport but depending costs would look at 525d MSport and 520d MSport.
I would consider a 530i but there are very few available on the 2nd hand market.
Can anyone identify any driving differences between saloon and touring and also between the models above compared to the additional costs that exist between them.
Thanks,

Golden Retriever!
We have one as well. Used to have 3... As a recent buyer of a 530xit I find that it works very well hauling 1 furkid. My previous car was a CRV. It actually worked a little better for me. (It carried all 3 well. 2 would be my limit with this vehicle.)
Our furkid is about 80 lbs.
Regards,
Dave
