Hi

Just wondering if anyone has ever encountered this before and solved the problem themselves. The tailgate on my 2006 e61 (530i) has just started to only open part way and it won't close when using the tailgate close button. When I press the close button the tailgate opens a little further and a little further till it's finally fully open. If I press the button again the tailgate tries to open a bit more then stops (as it's impossible to open more). To close the tailgate I have to manually force it shut.

I've checked the idrive tailgate setting and the readout has the tailgate set at the fully open position. Doesn't seem like there's much else I can try (I'm not an auto mechanic expert by any means).

Going to take it to the dealer in the next few days so will post any updates on the forum.

Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry don´t have any answer to this but I have exactly the same problem. It started few weeks ago and have not got any time to visit dealer yet. I did some testing one day and my quess is that there is some problem with wiring. So basically button wire is almost broken and it effets when wires get more tight by opening tailgate.
It think it cannot be anything else as otherwise it works fine, so you can close the tailgate by holding tailgate button down from the remote control key or press the button outside tailgate...

Please update what was the result :-)

Ok sadly this seems to be true.. Some members have already done more investigations successfully.

I've just bought an E61 and when testing the car I noted that the boot had this problem. The boot lid was juddering fairly badly as it opened and wouldn't close unless you held the button on the inside of the boot all the way down. It was almost as if the anti-trap was activating stopping the boot from closing.

The car went into a BMW specialists (not a main dealer mind) on monday and they have ordered a new module which sits near the boot area somewhere. They tell me this has had to come from Germany but this may just be an excuse as to why I've had to wait all week for an answer as to when my car is going to be ready.

I had a call from them today and they told me that some oil in one of the gas rams was low and the replacement oil had to be ordered to the exact millimeter from BMW at a cost of £62.

Hopefully they say this should fix the fault, watch this space, it may still be the poor design of the wiring loom passing through the boot hinge as explained in the cross referenced post. Either way, it is starting to sound expensive, just glad they are paying and also providing a 12 month warranty.

I'm suprised there are no BMW technicians on this site who are able to give definative answers on these faults.

Best of luck to every one with this fault.
