Hi all,

Another thanks for a great forum and instructions on fixing this problem. My remote lock/unlock has failed now (2007 E61 with about 85,000km) so I guess I'll start taking it apart this afternoon and have a look. Quick question first though - I've also noticed that if I'm listening to the radio or AUX source (iPod connected through the 1/8" headphone jack behind the middle console), if I turn the ignition off, when I get in and start the car again it starts playing the CD by default instead of the last listened to audio source (radio or AUX etc.). Is this related to the same problem? If not, does anyone know the possible cause? I just picked up the car yesterday after getting fixed from hitting a deer (front bumper / headlamp area) and I don't think this problem was there before that... although the remote problem is also quite new (it started about a week before I took the car in for the bodywork repairs).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Right reverse light and rear window defroster not working it was time for me to tackle this one.
Decided to check all 4 wiring looms. As others also discovered it was chocking. 2 wires cut and and 8 damaged. That there was no short circuit i don't understand.

This is the worst one :

This is how my car looked like with all the cables hanging out of the speakers :

Took me a whole day to do this, but seeing the state they where in I was glad i did it. Modified the metal brackets so the cables are not bended so much any more where they enter in the interior. Hope this will solve this problem. Design is absolute crap.

Sry battery of my camera was dead after taking the first 2 pictures.
I removed the sharp bend at the end of the lower part of the bracket as you can see in below drawing.
Its not perfect I know but better then it was. Now the wires are not bended 90° any more when closing the tailgate.

I see. Good idea.

1 - So the part where the rivet goes in (#3) stays in tact, and isn't affected?

2 - Also, did you do this on both sides, or just one side (and if so, which one)?

Sorry for the noob questions, I've yet to do this job, but am taking it in for some work on installing a backup camera, so we'll be in this area so I figure might as well do it then.

yes the part where the rivet goes in stays the same.

Did this on left and right of both the glass lid and the tailgate. So 4 in total.

Now looking at the drawing again, it looks like the bend at the end is not as sharp then they are on my car. I wonder if BMW has changed it.

What year is your car? They do seem to have updated the part...

Nice find! Pics are helpful at the very least. Wonder if it's out there in HTML format somewhere, then it's easy to use Google Translate to translate it into German.
