When we are on the subject. Does anyone know about some good replica M5 mirrors on the market thats bolt on regarding original wiring? I dont want to pay silly money for some OEM ones.
Don't know if these are good or not. They don't have wiring and the light is missing, but they look almost right.
If someone has these, so I would like to hear opinions about them (or some other replicas).

What do you think of this mod plan:
- Remove roof rails
- Use my 128 19s as the summer set-up
- Use my M172s as the winter set-up, but have them painted with a "chrome shaddow" finish

Every time I look at my signature I think my 128 rims are my favourite and my M172s are a nightmare to keep clean in summer anyway!

I want a more purposeful look, but want to keep it as OEM as possible and not too modified. Thoughts?

I'm expecting a quote from BMW tomorrow to remove the roof rails... that should be a laugh!

...ok, let me change "laugh" to "cry"! BMW quoted me... wait for it... EUR 1350 (10000 Danish Krones) to remove the Roof Rails!!!
I will call them tomorrow to understand how they came to that number and if it includes a weeks holiday in Spain? That said, I have very little hope of them reducing it to a half way acceptable price.

Greetings from the archipelago - I figured out a way to surf teh intrawebs from my summer cottage!

Right.

I think that roof rail removing is NOT worth it. It is part of your E61 and it belongs on the roof!

Not to mention that the price for "removal" is completely ric0ckulous.

Cant be too difficult to remove yourself?? I guess the rooflining has to come down, but otherwise it should be quite easy. But i havent checked it out so it can be relly hard to do of course.

As I understand it, it requires removing the headliner, and then plugging the holes in the roof with BMW parts.

The only way that I am having my headliner removed by ANYONE is if I get a black leather replacement...

At a high level, yes, its just remove the headliner and plug the holes. I am not experienced in physically modding / working on cars, so am nervous about what I could mess up with the airbags and fitment around the Panorama Roof. For someone confident in working on cars, I assume its relatively straight forward.

As for the black leather (alcantara) roof liner, yes please!!

My whole "try to keep it OEM" approach to modding is clearly not a very cost effective approach
