oh, you know what, the bars alone are just fine, barely clear but they do. The issue was with the underside of cargo boxes and anything that would wrap under the bar.
Things that would mount into the slot across the top of the bar wouldn't be a problem.
Specifically in my experience it was the Thule cargo box clamping double "claws" and they are pretty low profile as compared to the Yakima massive thick single claw which definitely wouldn't work.
Also, I have two cargo boxes that both nest lower than the bar itself rather than riding completely on top of the bar. The Thule Boxster and the Spirit (discontinued but very similar design other than it's narrower but longer)
The Thule Aeroblade I linked above places the bar itself just high enough that most things would mount without issue and allow the panoramic sunroof to open/vent.
