Service indicator
#1
Hi All,
I seem to have a fantastically efficient car....... sure a 525d MSport is fairly efficiet but ....
Since buying the car I have covered 2.5k miles and the service mileage indicator seems stuck @ 6k
Now call me synical but surely it would behave in the same way that my E46 used to and count down to the next service.
It just seems a little strange. The car has covered just over 9k miles and has been into BMW for some work on updating the software, apparently to the latest CIP and the tail-gate module needed to be replaced.
Since this has happened I am also losing what audio source was last playing and the function displayed on the dash monitor. It seems to me as though the computer is reseting over night. Its happened twice this week already.
Anyone else had a problem like this...?
The main worry is the mileage calculation for service as would like to know when I need to service it and hope it doesn't suddenly decrement in 6k blocks (now that would be stupid). I would expect it to have adjusted over 2.5k of relaxed and spirited driving.
Thanks guys
Marc.

I have a bit of an issue wioth these service indicators though. My last car needed servicing every 9k miles (guess around 15,000 km)
However, with the service indicators it seems to need to go back in much more often - for a check, for a particulate filter, now for front brake pads. To a lexus driving colleague he laughs that my BMW is always at the dealer, for breakdown or anothre version of a service
Saves washing the car myself I suppose

My service mileage indicator also sticks at about 6000 for months, but starts to tick down about 9000 miles after the last oil change.
So it does not indicate accurate mileage to next servioce until 6000 miles before it is due.
What reading do you get if you go into the i-drive and look at the distance to next service?
Mine gives a more sensible read than on the speedo guages.
If you have done 9000 miles it should start to count down within the next 1000 miles or 2, oil changes normally come up every 15-18,000 miles. The counter will probablty drop from 6,000 to 5,000 then drop every couple of hundred miles.
So it does not indicate accurate mileage to next servioce until 6000 miles before it is due.

Its finally started to tick down. I noticed at just over 11k on the clock its now saying I've got 4800 mile until the next service... Why the hell cant it tick up/down from 15k as it did in the E46, it obviously knows whats left.
BMW remove the clip in the software to show max of 6000 miles...
Oh how I wish I could get hold of the source code for the software in this car, it could be made so much better.

And spoil the fun for the rest of us? No way!

That explains why it takes and age for the iDrive to do anything.
Microsoft should stick to PC's, embedded is not their area.
