S85 swap research started!
Hey all,
Been a while since I posted. Back when I was converting my 07 530 from 4 to 2WD my good friend joked that I should just throw in an S85 and call it a day. Well, I guess that planted a seed because I can't seem to get that thought out of my head these days. I sold that wagon after a year and a half or so, and I pretty much don't regret it - it just wasn't *exactly* what I wanted in terms of options. The big thing that swap gave me was confidence that with a little effort I can probably do whatever I wanted within reason.
Fast forward a few years and I've occasionally revisited that repower thought. I love love love my M235i and it does have about every option I want... but it's not a wagon. So I started looking around to see what's out there, and I'm encouraged. As a result I've started casually looking for exactly what I want in a wagon (LCI, etc). I'll probably drive it about 6 months or so to make sure it's sorted then really get into a search for a donor M5. I think doing a full hardware swap from a sedan is the best way. I'll basically take both down to a body in white and go from there. The rear harness can be spliced in at key points for the wagon-specific bits, and Bob's Your Uncle - M5 wagon!
Cheers,
Andy
