Hi

I?ve had my new E61 now for a few months. It has 30000 km. Today I will pick it up after repainting the rear lid where several blisters in the paint (rust?) appeared. The service bulletin said repaint and not exchanged since it been adjusted in production? So there really was a production problem with this?

Also my Idrive, or what ever electrical in the centre panel, just locks, when I start the car it is just grey, no radio, no navi, no ECC, nothing. What ever button I push I can't do anything. But the cars run. And next time I start, it is working ok, BUT, all saved addresses, radio stations, pre-programmed buttons, zeroed! This has happened aprox 5 times until I got the time to take it to the dealer, drives between Sweden and Austria so it is not so easy to take a car to the dealer all the time. They downloaded new soft ware, and I understand them, what can they do because there are of course now fault when I get there. But, now it happened again!

So my question, is there anyone that experienced the same?

This is my 10th BMW in a row, and it is the first with any trouble. But I didn't expect that for a model that will be replaced in one year....my first 535d should have had more problems, but it had non for the 85000 km I owned it.

Had similar I-drive issues (screen blank, info deleted etc). Turned out to be because of a low battery charge. If the battery is below 85% charge the software shuts down non-essential functions to save power. This includes the i-drive. Reason it was losing charge was that some functions were remaining on whilst the car was parked and draining the battery.

New software was installed recently and no problems (however the car hasn't sat unused for more than a couple of days) so will have to see if that's fixed.

Interesting info! Didn't know that.
