Also, that with a family of four sooner or later I will be using the extra space on the roof.

But visually I vote "off"!

...so does that mean you will be putting the kids on the roof -- seems a bit radical, but hey, you have to take care of your leather

thanks for the feedback -- your's is another one of the E61s I have been getting ideas from!

I guess I am in the minority, I like the look of the rails. But then again I am a cyclist and we have been known to be a little style deprived, we are grown men riding around in lycra for goodness sake!

That looks seriously hot! Thanks for posting that pic -- this is pretty much the combo I had in my mind, but could not find a photo. The 19s make a big difference to the overall look of the E61 without the rails.

Which black is that? Jet Black, Saphire Black or Carbon Black?

Without the roof rails for sure ... i never even realised you could get the E61 that way, and it looks bloody good.

Wow -- I am seriously impressed!! What a difference the 19s make to the whole look of the car, especially without the roof rails.

Thank you fontes79, you've helped me answer that questions.

However... ... I am now thinking maybe Carbon Black will be better than Jet Black, simply because of the depth and shine you get. I currently have Carbon Black and wanted something different, even if it is only slightly different. I saw a Jet Black and Carbon Black E61 m-sport next to oneanother at a dealership last weekend and there was hardly any difference, however I could imagine that out under normal light conditions, the Carbon Black will shine better... (It's those decision time mind-games kicking in again... )

I do 1000km per week and wash my car in a car wash every week. Any thoughts on keeping Jet Black looking as good as Carbon Black, or is that just not going to happen?

...and while you are at it (no roof rails, 19"), the m5 mirrors is effectively the final touch to the perfect car

Jet Black is actually the only "real" black... as carbon black is more dark blue. Now, Jet Black looks great on a new car - my inital choice actually - but realising the painstaking job of keeping that colour beautiful throughout the years in a sligthly unfriendly climate as the Scandinavian... I went for a metallic. (Here in Sweden there are so many carbon black's so I ended up with Platnium Grey, something I have never regretted. But that's another story...)
