roof racks(bike carrier) for 530xit
#1
Anybody know if BMW makes has a bike carrier for the e60 wagon? I see the system for the sedan in the accessories brochure but no mention of the wagon. They must make a crossmember for the factory roof rails, but I can't find any info on it.
Thanks

Yes they do. Go to the brochure and check out page 8. It's probably part of the same system as the sedan.

Provided you have the roofrails why not go for the products offered by companies like Thule (www.thule.com) ?
They work very well and are easy to put on / take off the car.

Agree - strongly recommend Thule. Quality stuff without the BMW / dealer markup
I have had to buy an slightly wider bar and a new foot pack for the A3, but bought that on ebay for ?20 anyway so all in all it has been a cheap purchase as I would have had to keep buying whole systems if I had gone with the factory set ups.
You also get the Thule one key system too, this is a kit that allows you to change all the locks on the system so it uses only one key, makes taking the whole lot off/on a 5 min process.

My Ride: 2006 530xiT Titanium Silver, 6-speed Manual, new style Start/Stop ignition, Black Dakota Leather, anthracite maple wood trim, heated seats front and rear, heated steering wheel, headlight washers, automatic tailgate, auto dimming mirrors, Logic 7, 6-disc changer, sport seats, shadow line trim, rear sun blinds, PDC, adaptive xenons, 18" style 123 wheels, , navigation, voice control, bluetooth, BMW roof rack + bike attachments,
I have the BMW roof rack, and like it very much. Once set up, it is very easy to put on and take as needed (3 mins.). At first I tried the Thule (a friend is a dealer), but decided the BMW version had a much cleaner look than the Thule. I am also using the bike attachment that does not require front wheel removal, which works very well road mtb bikes.

Thanks to all for the input.
