recently my rear wiper motor has seized.
I have freed it up with some WD40 and a bit of brute strength.
Anybody else had this problem.

Yes, I have. The problem was the inner workings inside the lift-up tailgate glass, which I replaced and not the motor itself.

I have lavished these workings with WD40 so will see how it goes.

I'd this problem. Mechanic thought it was the motor but I'd a closer look at it.
You need to open the glass window, take apart the wiper and the housing that it sits in after removing the wiper arm. There is a bushing that the spindle goes through, the spindle gets rusted up and in my case just went solid. I think it had been slowing down over a period of weeks/months but I thought it was the motor going but where in fact it was the spindle and bushing just getting more and more rusted.
I'd to take this completely out of the window and use a lot of WD40 and plenty of the mallet to get it free again. You need then to get the rust off with wire wool or very fine sandpaper and greese up the bushing and spindle. I think the first time I just used WD40 to lubricate it and the whole thing seezed afer a few months again so had to dismantle it again. Build it all back up again and it should work fine.

Thanks guys, as I thought.
I'll keep an eye on it and dismantle when I get the time........................or it dies again, whichever comes first

Eventually got round to sorting this, as colm245 suggested, it was partial rusting within the spindle assembly.
Pain getting the thing apart due to rusting of nut and wiper arm onto spindle, bit of WD-40 and grunting got that off.
Have to then remove a small circlip on the spindle to allow it to be pulled out of the barrel. DO NOT LOSE THIS circlip.
Bit of prising got the spindle out of the barrel then wire wool to clean off the rust , it is mostly the barrel that rusts, not the spindle itself in my case.
A smear of copper grease on all the parts had everything moving smoothly again.
If your rear wiper starts to move a bit sluggishly or does not get all the way down to the park position, then I would suggest tackling this job sooner rather than later.

It is certainly worth a try, try to get it right down the spindle.
However - Not sure if the part is greased to start with, if so WD40 is liable to dissolve it and make it worse.

Nothing as a job well done :-)
Mine did the same some month ago. It failed over one rainy day..
I could not get the spindle free and I was afraid to brake the class so I ended up getting a new and with some help of my mechanic we got it free.. I think the part was 60£!
