Problems with Idrive system
#1
I have a 05 535d and my idrive system is coming and going all the time. Syddenly it freezes and the music stops. And when that happens there is no resistance when i turn the wheel on idrive. Then i cant do anything and just needs to wait untill the music starts again and everything is back to normal. Anyone had this problem?? There is nothing wrong with the alternator or battery.

After the latest upgrade I experienced the same when listening to music from a USB-stick.
I talked to my garage and they all looked like question marks, so it's "nice" I'm not the only one experiencing this. As I bought an iPod I stopped using the USB stick and with the iPod I have no such problems.

Im gonna try a software upgrade next week and see if that takes care of the problem. Otherwise i think this can be a expensive problem
Thanks

When my 04 535d iDrive started freezing and the radio dropping out it was a faulty Bluetooth module. Unplugging the Bluetooth module (optical and electrical plugs) cured the iDrive but knocked out the CD changer.... When the Bluetooth module was replaced it was all fine again.

Can actually be the same on my car. Cos when the idrive system is up and going i still cant use the bluetooth in my car. Thanks for the tip. But it can also be some other problem. I got a warning message the other day. It says: High rate of battery discharge. And that came after i had been driving for 5 hours. Going to get it checked out very soon.

Hi ArneR,
did you find out what the problem was or fix it? I have exactly the same symptoms and it seems to be more frequent in hotter weather. I have been to the dealer and an independent shop but all I get is blank looks as the symptoms are never there when you visit the garage and no fault codes show up.
Please be so kind to post if you find the fix.
Many thanks.

I think the iDrive control unit needs to be changed, this is expensive (not for you, you have waranty right?) and time consuming and the part has to be special ordered as dealerships dont keep these on hand.. I would get it into the dealer as soon as you get back from Korea
