I'm new to the forum and wanted to say that reading everyone's post has provided a lot of helpful information about my '06 E61 wagon. Great stuff. So, thank you!

What I'm trying to figure out right now is the 6-disk CD changer in the glovebox versus in-dash player and MP3s. I have an '06 with Nav and Logic7 and the dealer just updated the softwware yesterday (early build 05/05) so that it would play MP3s (they sound great) - however it only plays them on the in-dash CD player and NOT the 6-disk changer - shows up as empty slot. It was my understanding bsased upon what I read here that IT WOULD BE THE OPPOSITE and they should play on the changer. So, I thought it was worth checking and educate myself before I bring it back again - any thoughts? Did he forget to activate something? Otherwise I'll drop the issue and enjoy having MP3s on the single slot player. Thanks much!

your In Dash Changer Cannot read MP3 CD's. So enjoy your Single Slot MP3 and in the future just add the BMW iPod Most interface or the Dension Gateway 500.

That's the weird thing - the indash DOES now play MP3s - but the changer does not

I think you have it reversed. The In-Dash plays MP3 changer does not.

No, that's what I mean by weird - the in-dash DOES play MP3s great - and shows ROOT and Song Titles in the Idrive. I'm trying to find out why the changer in the glovebox won't recognize mp3s.

My touring is a 05/05 build as well.

That is weird. I can play MP3's through my ipod interface but not through the single slot CD player depsite having the enable MP3 function as part of a software update.

Long standing and clearly the same on all models at least through a build date of March 2007.

In dash CD (and DVD) SINGLE SLOT player does play MP3 (assuming proper software coding).

6CDC (the Changer) as we all know is NOT in the dash (may be a language or translation problem for some) - usually in glove box and it does NOT play MP3s.

BMW did claim that beginning in March 2007 that they would produce a 6CDC that did play MP3 but I do not recall anyone stating that for a fact. I simply may not have been paying attention.

...or maybe because everyone has been getting the USB interface (option 6FL) so the mp3 feature on the 6 CD changer has become obsolete...

Thank you for the feedback - I guess the fact is that the 6-disk CD changer can't play MP3s so I won't bother the dealer - but they did enable the indash single disk unit to play the MP3s and that works for me!
